Dave born to Pianist Mother and Thespian Opera Singer Father is a musical wizard comfortable in any genre.

He studied and taught both guitar and piano at the Jazz Workshop under Merton Barrow during the 80s . He continued with jazz performance & arrangement studies ( majoring in guitar and piano ) at the University of Cape Town under  Professor Mike Campbell in the 90s. He has performed and recorded with a host of South African , Afircan and  international artistes including: Hugh Masekela, Miriam Makeba, Winston Mankunku, Bjorn Meyer, 

Manu Dibango, Ray Phiri, Jimmy Dludlu, Robbie Jansen, Dave Young, Sibongile Khumalo, Stephan Chausse, Morris Goldberg, Ezra & Duke Ngcukana, Johnny Fourie, Bruce Cassidy, James Phillips, Shawn Phillips, Daniel Mille, Sean Bergin, Ivan Masuze, Gavin Minter, Nico Carstens, Marcus Wyatt, Roger Lucey,

Rus Nerwich, Tina Schouw, Amanda Tiffin to name but a few  

He has recorded his own as well as appeared on countless other albums as a

much sought-after sideman on guitar or piano and often both. 

He has featured and headlined regularly on Southern Africa's top festivals including:

David was the man responsible for the music and madness of the SAMA-nominated  Truly Fully Hey Shoo Wow band – a popular Cape Town ensemble featuring Marcus Wyatt, Buddy Wells, Kevin Gibson, Lucas Khumalo, Frank Paco, Ryan Grogan, Crick Lund, Mark Goliath, Graham Beyer & Mandisa Bardell. 

Other notable ensemble groups include Dave Leadbetter and The Clearing , the Free Spirit band, the Groove Kings & Rough Diamond.

His current projects include the collaborative world music ensembles:

featuring Amanda Tiffin, Hein Van de Geyn (Dutch master bassist) & Guilherme Ribeiro (Brazil)

David bases himself between Europe and Cape Town ,playing, performing, recording and teaching.
